She will help you to explore how you can communicate more effectively with audiences, visitors and participants, using written words. There will be loads of handy hints about the process of writing copy, plenty of opportunities to put them into practice. Focusing on the needs of marketers working for festivals and in performing arts and visual arts venues it will include an overview of research about how attenders and non-attenders respond to what we write. If you write copy and would like to get out of a rut, communicate more effectively and feel more confident - this is the workshop for you.

Statistically Speaking
The latest national survey of visitors’ attitudes and experiences in Scotland was published by VisitScotland last month and revealed the usual very high levels of visitor satisfaction (97%). Great news, as it’s a sign that in an increasingly competitive international marketplace, people who spend time with us here really enjoy it. However, when you look beneath the good headline stats, the findings are not quite so rosy. 40% of overseas visitors felt Scotland was poor or very poor value for money and 33% would not recommend our food. Although most of our visitors come from the UK, 13% of our compatriots still thought Scotland was poor value for money. So much of VFM is about perception that there are lots of ways to improve the perception of value without it costing providers very much apart, perhaps, from the effort to work out how. Issues of presentation, personal interactions, attention to detail, service around the product are all part of this. Some extra bells and whistles here and there may help but the key point is we’re selling experiences, not just product. Find out more…
Marvellous March for Glasgow’s spring festivals
March has been a busy month for Glasgow, with three of its most popular arts festivals drawing audiences to Scotland’s largest city. The Magners Glasgow International Comedy Festival, Aye Write! The Bank of Scotland Book Festival and the 16th French Film Festival UK all took place. Bailie Liz Cameron, Vice-Chair of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, commented: "I’m absolutely delighted that the public is responding so positively to these wonderful festivals. 2007 was a great year for cultural events in Glasgow and this trio of impressive festivals, followed shortly afterwards by the Glasgow International Festival of Visual Contemporary Art in April, will help ensure that 2008 will also be a record breaking year!"

What's on: Triptych Presents: Music for Minorities by Mikel Rouse
Where: Glasgow Royal Concert Hall
When: Saturday 26th April 2008, 8pm
ArtsPass Offer: 2 for 1 tickets
The star of New York's Next Wave festival 2006 kicks off his 2008 tour of the UK and Ireland with Music for Minorities, a fascinating integration of film, music and performance. High art meets popular culture as the 80's Manhattan music and art scene are brought together in a fascinating way. A recorded soundscape of percussion and multiple guitars is the accompaniment to a live performance that incorporates stories, interviews and songs with synchronised video, as composer and performer Mikel Rouse brings his multimedia work to Glasgow. Music For Minorities reflects the trademark blues style of music from Louisiana and the Southern Delta. Rouse means "minorities" to imply the lack of individuality in the current offerings of corporate media, not to be confused with its social connotation. This assemblage film, music and performance offers another approach to story telling in the media age.
