One small step for Tourism, one giant leap for GGA!
Recognising the chance to enhance collaboration between the Arts and Tourism and develop new partnerships, Julie, Dianne and Nina from GGA recently took part in Innovation EG, a project created by the Glasgow - Edinburgh Collaborating to Compete initiative team.
The project sought to develop exciting and innovative ideas that would encourage more people to visit both cities and ultimately make the visitor experience something to remember! Dianne and Nina were part of the winning team - the 'Weegie Burghers'! They won a £3,000 cash prize and an international learning journey that relates to the theme of their wining idea. Not to be outdone, the team mentored by Julie took second place – a great result for GGA! To find out more about the project visit the GGA website.

What's on: Materials for a Small Winter

When: Saturday 12 July 2008
ArtsPass Offer: 2 for 1 tickets (usual price £8)
Following the success of Meatyard. Meat. Me. in 2007 Dance House is delighted to support the final work in Angus Balbernie’s ongoing series of performance pieces developed over the last five years, based on the writings of alcoholic writer Malcolm Lowry, and his real and imagined relationship to his two wives.
In this piece a woman imagines she is Rita Hayworth in the film Gilda, and projects this “noir world” into a far darker reality. Although movement-based, the work includes text from Lowry’s writing, Hayworth’s performances and film noir scripts, using live soundscape entwined with bodies and text, to reveal the fracturing of reality in the life and writings of Lowry, the male-gaze and film noir, and the darkness that lies at the heart of abuse. The evening will also include a performance by participants in Dance House’ Summer Intensive which Angus has directed.

You can read interviews with people who are already working in theatre and discover over 80 careers in theatre. Although the website is focussed on theatres down south, it is a useful resource for those working in theatres anywhere!
For further insight into working in theatre read an interview with Zoe Jeyes, 26, a Front of House Manager at Lakeside Arts Centre here.
