What's the Scoop?

Exciting times for the Tron
As a leading theatre in Scotland, the Tron is now entering an exciting new phase in its development and increasing its level of arts activity and theatre production.
Vox Motus, in co-production with the Tron Theatre present Slick - a hilariously twisted dark comedy featuring an outrageous cast of characters.

With three sold out preview performances at the Tron under their belt, Vox Motus head to the Festival, opening at the Traverse and running from 12th - 24th August. For a flavour of what's in store check out the trailer at http://www.youtube.co.uk/voxmotus

The Tron's Autumn Season is now on sale! Highlights include Six Acts of Love, Suddenly Last Summer and Mother Bruce. Also, their box office is on the move. It has relocated in-house into the Tron’s foyer. Find out more...

What's new at Tramway?
Tramway's new Education Programmer, Heather Lynch is launching her first official season of activity. Currently there are Parkour workshops taking place but watch out for seminars, family workshops and Visual Arts activities as well! The Hidden Gardens has now launched new audio guides so you can find out all the interesting facts as you walk around the garden! Last but not least, congratulations to Operations Manager, Jade Graham who is expecting a baby!

Life's a beach
What do you do when the world's biggest arts festival is going on down the road from you? Borrow some of the performers and give the locals - and lucky visitors - a taste of the cultural smorgasbord while the acts are in the area anyway. This is what three public spirited souls from North Berwick have done and they're calling it Fringe by the Sea.

Taking place from the 13th - 16th of August in the East Lothian seaside town, people are invited to escape the madness of Edinburgh in August and jump on the 1.37pm from Waverley on 13 August. Once aboard they'll be serenaded by Orkestra del Sol all the way to the seaside and then down North Berwick High Street in a grand opening parade.

Customer Service

Who are tomorrow's customers and how will I serve them?
A new report has been written which examines cultural shifts taking place in society, shaping the customer of the future. Findings suggest that the customer service industry is about to face its biggest challenge yet, as today's children develop a cultural voice and become fully-fledged consumers.

Born in the 1990s, tomorrow's consumers - dubbed 'the silent generation' - have grown up with the internet and mobile technology as a de facto part of life. As a result they have entirely different expectations and communication patterns to previous generational groups. They are inherently confident with IT and choose to use technology over direct communications in most situations, knowing it provides instant access and results. Never before has the coming of age of a single generation represented such a cultural challenge, or required such a radical rethink for businesses as they learn to adapt to serve the needs of the customer of the future. Find out more...

And Finally

The Royal Train
Colin Robertson worked at Edinburgh Castle in his teens, savouring the queries voiced by our cousins from the land of the free (US of A!). Colin always enjoyed being asked what time the one o’clock gun went off at, but he’ll never forget the conviction with which a workmate answered another recurrent transatlantic stoatir: why was the castle built so close to the railway station? Colin’s colleague, an older man, never failed to persuade visitors that should the English ever be seen marching towards the capital, castle guards would smuggle Mary Queen of Scots aboard the next Waverley shuttle bound for the safe historic haven of Glasgow’s Queen Street.

Don't forget, C21 News is for you, about you and written by you! We want to hear what you've got to say about what's going on with you and your colleagues at your venue or organisation. Have you taken advantage of your ArtsPass yet - what did you think of what you saw? What training have you attended recently and how useful did you find it? We'd welcome your reviews, comments and recommendations to feature in the next edition of C21 News.

Please send your contributions to Nina at GGA.

Until next time - best wishes
