Art Gallery in running for £5m windfall
One of Glasgow's most popular galleries has moved a step closer to winning a share of a £5million arts bonanza. The Gallery of Modern Art has been chosen alongside nine other galleries in UK to go forward to the second round of a charity collecting scheme run by The Art Fund. The arts charity announced it was committing £5million to a new initiative aimed at developing the collections of international modern art venues. A total of 29 museums throughout Britain responded to the call for entries, with applications for cash totalling more than £28million. Only 10 proposals have made it to the next round - including GoMA's. Five of the museums and galleries on the list will be given funds to help bolster their collections of contemporary art.
