East end 'will be home of National Theatre'
The National Theatre of Scotland may find its new home to be a currently ruined country house in the east end of Glasgow. Culture Minister, Patricia Ferguson, has accepted the original home for the company - The Bridge in Easterhouse - is not big enough to house the NTS in its current form, but insists the search for a suitable site would remain focused on that area of the city.
National Arena wins final £25m funding
The construction of the Scottish National Arena is set to go ahead after Scottish Enterprise Glasgow confirmed it had put the final piece of funding in place. The organisation is to contribute £25m to the 12,500 seat arena, which will sustain 1,400 jobs and play a major part in the regeneration of the Clyde waterfront. It is hoped the project will significantly strengthen Glasgow's bid to host the Commonwealth Games in 2014 and play a major part in attracting tourists to the city.

TrueTouch - a new classification for channel and communication preference
TrueTouch is a new consumer classification that segments individuals by their preferred choice of media channel and predicts their likely response to different styles of marketing communication. TrueTouch has been underpinned by new consumer research by the Future Foundation, an Experian-owned think-tank and global marketing consultancy. The research investigates ways in which consumers make purchasing decisions in different circumstances and how this is increasingly related to media channel. They have identified six main decision-making styles which help to shape how individuals respond to marketing communications: Accepting; Adamant; Experimental; Perfectionist; Inquiring; Intuitive. Pre-registration challenges
Glastonbury Festival joined those organisations determined to stamp out re-selling and ticket touts by requiring potential purchasers for this year's festival to pre-register before 28 Feb 07 - supplying a photograph to prove their identity, which will appear on the ticket. Pre-registration is increasingly being argued for Internet ticketing, so that purchasers set up an account and log-in to buy tickets. The strongest argument is that this means more people complete their transactions. Some managers think this may also weed out those who use it as an 'availability checker', but that may also be a useful service which helps make sales. And for people with special needs, registration and recognition means they get privileged access to assistive technologies or booking wheelchair and companion spaces. Read more...

Scotland goes interactive in bid for UK visitors
Interactive TV advertising is being used to lure visitors to Scotland for the first time. The new approach is being trialled by national tourism organisation, VisitScotland. Satellite TV viewers across the UK have been able to go interactive and find out more about events and festivals in Scotland when they 'press the red button' during VisitScotland's adverts throughout March 07. The adverts, which ran on over 80 satellite channels including Sky, Sky Movies, Sky Sports, UK Gold and ITV2, will reach a potential audience of 7 million adults. The fast-paced ad features live footage from a range of events around Scotland including the Edinburgh Festivals, clubbing in Glasgow and rugby internationals. The new interactive adverts also give viewers the chance to request an e-brochure through their TV. The e-brochure has a wealth of information about a wide range of events across Scotland, including Burns an' a' that! Festival in Ayr and the Glasgow International Jazz Festival, along with a list of accommodation offers. Recent research conducted by VisitScotland found that around 40% of UK visitors are inspired to book a trip to coincide with an event or festival. TV viewing patterns have changed over recent years, with viewers showing increasing loyalty to programmes rather than channels. The interactive campaign is designed to respond to this change, as well as having the potential to target more and different audiences.

What a performance...
A drama teacher tells of her 21 year old son who passed a group of skip-capped and tracksuited young chaps on his way home and was disgusted to hear their discussion: "Right, we aw need to dae it the gither. We'll get him next time. OK. Aye, when we see him at the corner we'll aw jump doon and dae Jazz Hands". With 25 years experience teaching in some of Glasgow's more salubrious areas, it did her heart good to know that the arts do make a difference.

Where there's a 'Wilf', there is a waste
According to research, Britons are becoming a nation of aimless internet users. Surfers are spending an average of two full working days a month enjoying the newly identified habit of Wilfing (What Was I Looking For?), a study has claimed. The research also revealed men were more likely to be Wilfers than women, and that the emerging phenomenon can also harm relationships. However, the good news is that Wilfing is a habit which people tend to grow out of. Internet users aged 55 or over are three times less likely to Wilf than those under 25.

Don't forget, C21 News is for you, about you and written by you!
We want to hear what you've got to say about what's going on with you and your colleagues at your venue or organisation. Have you taken advantage of your ArtsPass yet - what did you think of what you saw? What training have you attended recently and how useful did you find it? We'd welcome your reviews, comments and recommendations to feature in the next edition of C21 News.
Please send contributions by Friday 11 May 2007 to Kirsty at GGA.
