RSNO team take a bite at planning concert project

Have you ever imagined what it would be like to produce your own show? Think you could do better than some of the artistic planners?
This year, a team of RSNO staff, including Daniel Pollitt - Communications Manager (pictured left at RSNO's Frightfully Spooky Halloween Classics)
and brilliantly led by the tenacious Laura Taylor - Marketing Assistant, had just this opportunity when they became an 'ideas factory' for the popular
Classic Bites concert series. Briefed with the vague-but-huge task of "bringing shed loads of newcomers to classical music - and make sure they're young and attractive", and armed only with a tiny budget and the proviso that the concerts were all to be on Wednesday evenings at 6pm, the team was given free reign to run riot over tradition, formality and hierarchy. They worked on everything from concepts, programmes, production and marketing.
The series they came up with begins on Wednesday 7 November with
Classic Bites: The Orchestra's Playlist, takes in a unique public vote with
Classic Bites: Your Playlist (vote for your three favourite orchestral works at
www.classicbites.org.uk) and finishes with
Classic Bites: Movie Playlist.
As well as the online vote, the project includes free downloads, conductor and player podcasts, on-stage introductions by the players, TV ads (look out for them on STV this week), a microsite and a very special little online game, Pacmaninov!
Tickets for Classic Bites concerts are free to ArtsPass holders! Read on for more details...

GGA Training Needs Analysis 2007
Last year, as part of our ongoing strategy to develop training and networking opportunities for members, we undertook a survey to assess member training needs relative to their roles in different organisations. The results of the initial Training Needs Analysis (TNA) enabled us to build a comprehensive picture of Box Office, Front of House and Marketing staff working in the arts in and around Glasgow.
This month we are repeating the study and the information generated by the TNA will inform the growth of GGA’s Speed Networking & Intelligence service and help to sustain current training initiatives. Over the next few days all Box Office, Front of House and Marketing staff will receive a copy of the TNA questionnaire to complete and return to GGA by Friday 30th November 2007.
Is there anyone who has recently joined your organisation that we don't know about? We want to hear the views from as many people as possible and your assistance in duplicating the questionnaire and circulating to staff that may not have e-mail access is vital and very much appreciated. The higher the response rate, the more complete our analysis will be. Many thanks in advance!

Glasgow launches Tourism Strategy for the next decade
Glasgow has launched its ambitious plans for a decade-long development of its tourist industry to continue its success as a world-class city and destination, and bring £1 billion to its economy every year. Glasgow’s Tourism Strategy sets out a clear direction for the city’s tourism industry that will bring an expected four million visitors a year to Glasgow by 2016. With global tourism expected to grow at 4% a year, this would mean the sector would generate £1 billion in annual revenue for the city. The projected growth in tourism is expected to bring another 9,000 tourism-related jobs to Glasgow and create demand for a further 3,000 hotel beds in the city. For more information visit See Glasgow.
The times they are a'changing
Scottish actor Tom Conti, appearing at Glasgow's Theatre Royal this month in Romantic Comedy, made comment about the passage of time. He explained "When I was touted as a new kind of hot actor, girls used to come up to the stage and touch my hair and all that. A few years later a girl came up and said 'Oh my mother loves you'. A few years after that, someone came up to me and said, 'Oh, my grandma's so excited'!"
